Celebrating 19 Years of Justin Timberlake’s FutureSex/LoveSounds!
Released on September 8, 2006, FutureSex/LoveSounds marked a bold new era for Justin Timberlake. The album showcased a futuristic blend of pop, R&B, funk, and electronic sounds, led by groundbreaking production from Timbaland. With hits like “SexyBack,” “My Love,” and “What Goes Around… Comes Around,” the record pushed boundaries and helped redefine the sound of mainstream pop in the mid-2000s. 💿🎶
When FutureSex/LoveSounds was gearing up for release, I was lucky enough to attend a special listening party with Justin at Best Buy in Dallas, TX on August 17, 2006—three weeks before the album officially dropped. Later that night, I also got to see him perform alongside Timbaland on the SexyBack Club Tour. Experiencing the music early and then watching it come alive on stage the same day was unforgettable, and it made the album’s release feel like a once-in-a-lifetime moment for a day-one JT fan like me. 🎤✨
The album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and went on to sell millions worldwide, cementing Justin’s status as one of the most innovative artists of his generation. FutureSex/LoveSounds also brought Justin major award recognition. At the 2007 Grammy Awards, he won Best Dance Recording for “SexyBack” and Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for “My Love” with T.I. The following year, he earned Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for “What Goes Around… Comes Around” and another Best Dance Recording for “LoveStoned/I Think She Knows (Interlude).” At the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards, Justin won four honors, including Artist of the Year and the prestigious Quadruple Threat Award. He also took home three American Music Awards that year: Favorite Pop/Rock Male Artist, Favorite Pop/Rock Album, and Favorite Soul/R&B Album. 🏆🎼
To continue the celebration of the album’s success, Justin launched the FutureSex/LoveShow tour in 2007. I was fortunate enough to attend the Dallas, TX stop on March 5, 2007, and it was an incredible full-length concert experience that showed just how powerful the album was live. The tour, which traveled across the globe, brought the futuristic sounds and visuals of the record to life in an unforgettable way for fans everywhere. 🎤✨
Nineteen years later, FutureSex/LoveSounds still feels fresh and forward-thinking. It wasn’t just an album—it was a cultural moment, one that redefined pop music and continues to influence artists today. As a fan who experienced this era firsthand, I’ll always look back on it as one of my favorite chapters in JT’s career. I encourage every fan to revisit the album, stream it on Spotify or Apple Music, and watch the official music videos for “SexyBack (ft. Timbaland),” “Medley: Let Me Talk To You/My Love (ft. T.I.),” “What Goes Around…Comes Around,” and “LoveStoned/I Think She Knows Interlude” that defined this groundbreaking era. 🎵🎬
