TRIVIA
Formation: The group was officially formed by Chris Kirkpatrick in Orlando, Florida, in 1995.
Name Origin: The group’s name was coined by Justin Timberlake’s mother, Lynn Harless, who remarked on how “in sync” their voices were; it also serves as an acronym of the original members’ last letters (JustiN, ChriS, JoeY, JasoN, and JC), with the “N” later representing Lance Bass after original bassist Jason Galasso departed.
Disney Roots: Before joining the band, Justin Timberlake and JC Chasez were both “Mouseketeers” on The All-New Mickey Mouse Club.
Global Debut: Their breakout single, “I Want You Back,” was actually released in Germany in 1996, a full year before its U.S. debut.
The Famous Star: The star in their name was inspired by a prediction from illusionist Uri Geller, who foresaw a future involving stars for the band. The symbol appeared on their first American album cover a year later.
Record Breakers: Their second album, No Strings Attached, sold a massive 2.4 million copies in its first week, earning a Guinness World Record for the fastest-selling pop album in U.S. history at the time.
Major Stages: The group has performed at some of the world’s biggest events, including the 2000 World Series, the 2001 Super Bowl, and the 2002 Winter Olympic Games.
Accolades: NSYNC has earned eight Grammy nominations, seven MTV Video Music Awards, and five Billboard Music Awards.
Hollywood Walk of Fame: In April 2018, the group was honored with a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 7080 Hollywood Boulevard.
21-Year Reunion: In 2023, the band reunited for the song “Better Place” for the film Trolls Band Together. Justin Timberlake described the track as a “love letter” to their longtime fans.
MCU Resurgence: Their hit “Bye Bye Bye” saw a massive global resurgence in 2024 after being featured in the opening credits of the Marvel film Deadpool & Wolverine.
