*NSYNC’s ‘No Strings Attached’ 25th Anniversary

Celebrating 25 Years of *NSYNC’s No Strings Attached!

Today marks the 25th anniversary of *NSYNC’s record-breaking album No Strings Attached! Released on March 21, 2000, the album cemented *NSYNC as one of the biggest pop acts of all time, consisting of Justin Timberlake, JC Chasez, Chris Kirkpatrick, Joey Fatone, and Lance Bass. It shattered sales records and produced some of their most iconic hits, solidifying their place in pop history.

Following a highly publicized legal battle for their artistic freedom, No Strings Attached symbolized their independence and creative control. The album introduced a blend of pop and R&B influences, with production from hitmakers like Max Martin, Teddy Riley, She’kspere, and Babyface, as well as contributions from Justin Timberlake and JC Chasez.

The album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart with an unprecedented 2.4 million copies sold in its first week—a record that stood for 15 years. It went on to become the best-selling album of 2000 and was accompanied by the massively successful No Strings Attached Tour.

I still remember the excitement of purchasing No Strings Attached on the day of its release at a Target store in Dallas, Texas. Holding the CD in my hands, knowing I was about to experience something incredible, was a feeling I’ll never forget. From the very first listen, I was hooked, and to this day, my top five favorite songs from the album are “Bye Bye Bye,” “It’s Gonna Be Me,” “This I Promise You,” “It Makes Me Ill,” and “No Strings Attached.”

Just a few months later, I had the unforgettable experience of attending the No Strings Attached Tour in Dallas on June 2, 2000. Seeing *NSYNC live for the very first time was surreal, and hearing the songs from No Strings Attached come to life on stage made the night even more magical. The energy, the performances, and the connection with the crowd created a concert experience I’ll never forget.

RIAA Certifications & Lasting Legacy

As we celebrate this milestone, *NSYNC’s No Strings Attached album has received a new certification, moving up to 12-times platinum in the U.S. The blockbuster full-length was previously named a diamond album by the RIAA in December 2000, later reaching 11-times platinum in 2001, and now it has climbed even further.

In addition to the album’s new milestone, three of *NSYNC’s most beloved singles have also been officially certified platinum for the first time:

“Bye Bye Bye” – Surging straight to five-times platinum status, this iconic anthem had never been certified before. Now, more than two decades after its release, it finally earns the recognition it deserves.

“It’s Gonna Be Me” – Previously certified gold in 2000, *NSYNC’s only Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hit has now been upgraded to triple platinum, meaning it has moved at least three million equivalent units in the U.S.

“This I Promise You” – The heartfelt ballad has officially earned platinum status, proving its lasting appeal even decades after its original release.

Iconic Singles & Music Videos

The album produced some of *NSYNC’s most memorable singles and music videos. “Bye Bye Bye” became an instant smash hit and one of *NSYNC’s signature songs, featuring an unforgettable music video with marionette imagery inspired by the album’s theme. “It’s Gonna Be Me” was another massive success, earning the group their first Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 single, with a creative video that transformed the band members into action figures coming to life. The heartfelt ballad “This I Promise You,” written by Richard Marx, showcased the group’s softer side and was also released in Spanish as “Yo Te Voy A Amar.” Internationally, “I’ll Never Stop” was another favorite that further solidified *NSYNC’s global appeal.

Special Collaboration

One of the standout tracks on the album, “Space Cowboy (Yippie-Yi-Yay),” features a guest rap by the legendary Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes of TLC, adding a unique flair to the record.
