The Social Network is a 2010 American biographical drama film directed by David Fincher and written by Aaron Sorkin, based on Ben Mezrich’s 2009 book The Accidental Billionaires. The film chronicles the founding and rapid growth of Facebook through the story of Harvard student Mark Zuckerberg, played by Jesse Eisenberg, and the relationships and legal disputes that followed. Justin Timberlake co-stars as Sean Parker, the co-founder of Napster who becomes an influential figure in Facebook’s early development and drives a wedge between Zuckerberg and his friend and business partner Eduardo Saverin. Andrew Garfield, Armie Hammer, Max Minghella, and Rooney Mara also star.
SYNOPSIS
Harvard sophomore Mark Zuckerberg creates a website called Facemash before developing Thefacebook, a social networking platform with his friend and business partner Eduardo Saverin. As the site rapidly expands beyond Harvard, Zuckerberg’s growing success attracts the attention of the Winklevoss twins and Divya Narendra, who accuse him of taking their idea for a Harvard-exclusive social network. The arrival of Napster co-founder Sean Parker, played by Justin Timberlake, brings a new vision for the company’s future and further complicates Zuckerberg’s already strained partnership with Saverin. As Facebook grows into a major social networking company, its success comes at the cost of friendships and business relationships, ultimately leading to legal disputes over the company’s origins and ownership.
