The Love Guru is a 2008 American romantic comedy film directed by Marco Schnabel in his feature directorial debut and written by Mike Myers and Graham Gordy. The film stars Myers as Guru Pitka, a self-proclaimed spiritual guru who is hired to help a struggling hockey team’s star player repair his marriage. Justin Timberlake co-stars as Jacques “Le Coq” Grandé, the star goaltender of the rival Los Angeles Kings who becomes involved in the relationship between the hockey player and his estranged wife. Jessica Alba, Romany Malco, Meagan Good, Ben Kingsley, and Verne Troyer also star.
SYNOPSIS
Guru Pitka, a self-proclaimed spiritual guru determined to become the world’s number-one guru, is hired by the owner of the struggling Toronto Maple Leafs to help star player Darren Roanoke reconcile with his estranged wife, Prudence. Darren’s marriage has fallen apart after Prudence left him for rival hockey player Jacques “Le Coq” Grandé, played by Justin Timberlake, and his emotional struggles have contributed to the team’s losing streak. As Pitka attempts to repair Darren and Prudence’s relationship using his unconventional teachings, he becomes caught up in Darren’s complicated relationship with his domineering mother, his rivalry with Le Coq, and his own growing feelings for the team’s owner. With the Stanley Cup within reach, Pitka must help Darren overcome the issues holding him back while learning some important lessons about love and self-acceptance himself.
