Model Behavior is a 2000 television film that aired as part of ABC’s The Wonderful World of Disney anthology series. Directed by Mark Rosman, the film stars Maggie Lawson as Alex Burroughs, a shy teenager who dreams of becoming a fashion designer, and Justin Timberlake in his film debut as Jason Sharpe, a young male model who becomes romantically interested in Alex after she unexpectedly finds herself living the life of a fashion model. Kathie Lee Gifford and Daniel Clark also star. Based on Michael Levin’s book Janine and Alex / Alex and Janine, the film puts a modern, gender-swapped spin on Mark Twain’s classic The Prince and the Pauper.
SYNOPSIS
Alex Burroughs is a shy teenager with dreams of becoming a fashion designer who unexpectedly meets Janine Adams, a successful teenage fashion model who looks exactly like her. When the two realize they could easily pass for one another, they decide to secretly switch places, allowing Alex to experience the glamorous world of modeling while Janine gets the chance to experience an ordinary high school life. As Alex adjusts to Janine’s world, she meets Jason Sharpe, a kind and charming young model who becomes interested in her, while Janine navigates high school and finds herself drawn to popular student Eric. Their secret identities lead to a series of misunderstandings and complications as both girls struggle to maintain their new lives.
