In Time is a 2011 American science fiction action film written, co-produced, and directed by Andrew Niccol. Set in a dystopian future where people stop aging at 25 and time has replaced money as the world’s primary currency, the film follows Will Salas, a factory worker from the impoverished Dayton Time Zone who becomes the target of the authorities after unexpectedly receiving more than a century of life. Justin Timberlake stars as Will, who travels to the wealthy New Greenwich after the death of his mother and becomes determined to challenge a system that allows the rich to live indefinitely while the poor struggle to survive. SYNOPSIS
In the year 2169, people are genetically engineered to stop aging at 25, after which a countdown clock on their forearm determines how much longer they have to live. Time has become the universal currency, creating a vast divide between the impoverished and wealthy Time Zones. Will Salas, a 28-year-old factory worker in Dayton, unexpectedly inherits more than a century of time from a mysterious stranger who reveals that the wealthy are hoarding time to maintain their power. After Will’s mother dies when she runs out of time, he travels to the affluent New Greenwich seeking answers and revenge. There, he meets wealthy heiress Sylvia Weis, and their lives change when Will is falsely accused of murder and takes her hostage. As Will and Sylvia uncover the corruption behind the Time System, they begin stealing time from the wealthy and distributing it to those who need it, putting them in the sights of the Timekeepers and the powerful forces determined to preserve the system.
